Nerve Transfer for Elbow Extension in Obstetrical Brachial Plexus Palsy.
Dear Editor, The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the option of triceps muscle restoration by means of selective neurotisation of the radial nerve in children suffering from obstetrical brachial plexus palsy (OBPP) during their early years of life. Early nerve surgery, which includes both brachial plexus reconstruction and nerve transfers, is generally accepted as the best option for treatin...
متن کاملPosterior Deltoid-to-Triceps Tendon Transfer for Elbow Extension in a Tetraplegia Patient: A Case Report
In tetraplegia patients, activities of daily living are highly dependent on the remaining upper limb functions. In other countries, upper limb reconstruction surgery to improve function has been applied to diverse cases, but few cases have been reported in Korea. The current authors experienced a case of posterior deltoid-to-triceps tendon transfer and rehabilitation in a complete spinal cord i...
متن کاملTrapezius transfer for deltoid paralysis.
We have reviewed 26 patients treated by trapezius transfer for deltoid paralysis due to brachial plexus injury or old poliomyelitis. We assessed the power of shoulder abduction and the tendency for subluxation. There were good results in 16 patients (60%); five were fair and five poor. Trapezius transfer appears to give reasonable results in the salvage of abductor paralysis of the shoulder.
متن کاملTrapezius muscle transfer for external shoulder rotation: anatomical study
OBJECTIVE To compare the viability of transferring the lower and transverse trapezius to the greater tuberosity using three different techniques. METHODS Twelve shoulders from six cadavers were used. The primary outcome was to assess the suture viability of the trapezius muscle transfer to the greater tuberosity in the insertion topography of the infraspinatus, with the arm adducted during in...
متن کاملAn elbow extension neuroprosthesis for individuals with tetraplegia.
Functional electrical stimulation (FES) of the triceps to restore control of elbow extension was integrated into a portable hand grasp neuroprosthesis for use by people with cervical level spinal cord injury. An accelerometer mounted on the upper arm activated triceps stimulation when the arm was raised above a predetermined threshold angle. Elbow posture was controlled by the subjects voluntar...
